Walkers offer wonderful assistance to most patients. However, for patients with some conditions, walkers can hinder mobility and they unfortunately don't prevent falling. The U-Step 2 with the included seat resolves those issues allowing folks with neurological conditions, such as Parkinson's, to walk more safely and easily. It all starts with the base. The U-Shaped base is ultra-stable, surrounding and bracing walkers in every direction to prevent them from falling. Unique and innovative, the base features three different types of wheels. Constructed of lightweight steel tubing and flat metal parts, there's 4" non-marking casters, thick rubber wheels that aid braking and rear-safety wheels that prevent backward falls. This unique design allows patients to turn in tight indoor areas, such as washrooms, kitchens and hallways. At only 23" wide, the U-Step 2 also makes walking through narrow doorways a non-event. Ergonomic handlebars are designed to encourage an upright stance, allowing patients to stand correctly. The innovative reverse braking system gives users complete control and ensures the U-Step isn't moving when it shouldn't. The U-Step 2 will not roll until either the left or right-hand brake is lightly squeezed. Once the hand brake is released, the unit stops immediately. The U-Step also gives rolling resistance control to the user, meaning the speed of the wheels can be adjusted. Loosening a screw lets users rotate the adjustment lever to select the desired resistance. The spring-loaded front caster system lets the U-Step glide easily over uneven surfaces, such as indoor molding strips and cracks in the sidewalk. This avoids sudden jolts as well as the need to lift the walker over small obstacles. In addition to the comfortable padded seat, the U-Step also features a basket to store small items, a locking clip, glow-in-the-dark tabs for night visibility and a height adjustment knob that lets the walker accommodate users from 4'10" up to 6'2". The walker has a weight capacity of 375 lbs. Please note, the unit arrives nearly fully assembled. No tools are needed for the final few touches. The majority of the U-Step's weight is in the base, which provides a low center of gravity offering greater stability. The reverse braking system is particularly helpful when standing up from a chair because the unit will not roll away. The innovative wheel configuration makes the U-Step 2 highly maneuverable and allows it to turn around in 29 inches, compared to 50 inches for most other advanced walkers. Important to remember that when sitting on the U-Step 2, users are facing backwards relative to the forward moving direction when walking. At only 21 lbs., the U-Step is easy to transport and store. Simply lift the release lever located near the seat, pull up on the seat support and fold.
